We choose to leave the dew claws intact on our puppies. Removal of the dew claw has become quite controversial, particularly in large breed dogs. The dew claw is very useful for the dog and prevents future injury and possible arthritis from the forces exerted on the foreleg. We feel that the dog's front legs have a much better proportioned look when left intact. Removal leaves the front legs with a "dainty" look due to the atrophy of the attached muscle.

We love Great Danes with cropped ears. We love Great Danes with natural ears.
The choice is yours when it comes to ear cropping. Ears should be cropped by 10 weeks of age. Please keep in mind that the ears of a European Great Dane are generally larger and heavier than those of an American. So, if you do choose to crop, be prepared to post your dog's ears for an extended period of time.
